Inner Child Healing Techniques For Trauma Patients

By Andrew Johnson

Trauma which begins in childhood can be dangerous when one doesn't deal with it in the early stages. It is not only sexual or physical abuse. It can be trauma of all levels. This can relate to parents who are emotionally abusive to youngsters. It can relate to bullying or neglect. Inner child healing techniques take place in therapy and can be more than helpful.

There are therapists who are experienced in working with kids of all levels. They know how to relate to young ones who express themselves in different ways to that of adults. However, most of the time, it is adults who trauma therapists work with. A therapist needs to be just as patient here. Clients struggle with various issues relating to the trauma. It can relate to flashbacks, nightmares as well as other psychological disorders.

There are different ways in which a therapist can help a person to come to terms with what they are going through. However, one has to remember that people who have been exposed to trauma take more time to open up. They are often not ready to talk about what they have been through. They often have problems trusting others, which is natural since they have been betrayed.

It is important to talk or write to the child about special qualities, treating him or her gently. This leads to compassion and love. When you can't love yourself, it is difficult to love others. You will have trouble with relationships, and possibly authority figures which makes it difficult to cope in the workplace. When you neglect these types of problems, it only becomes worse.

It can feel strange or uncomfortable talking to your inner child at first. The therapist may encourage their clients to write them a letter or to draw a picture. The creative process begins to take off. During this time, you will go back to your childhood and often become more childlike in nature. You will begin to look at the pictures of your childhood which helps you to see the changes over time.

This is a journey that you will begin to go on which will improve your mental state of mind and help you on a positive note. The connection helps you to discover more about what you were feeling at that particular time. You may learn to be more mindful because this can be helpful in terms of eliminating much of the anxiety that can be part of the trauma.

This will lead to fewer problems, such as with fear, for example. People sometimes think that this is a childish technique. However, there is a difference between being childish and childlike, and this is what you will find out when you take part in this type of therapy. People begin to notice the positive changes within themselves over time.

As you begin to talk to your inner child, saying that you love him or her and that you are proud of him, for example, you will improve in so many different areas. It can include your self esteem, your level of confidence, the fact that you don't have any reason to feel shame or guilt. Of course, one needs to believe this and to absorb it.
