Answering The Question Am I A Hoarder?

By Maria Wright

When one would think of hoarders, he would usually think of messy people who seem to keep a lot of stuff in their houses. While this is usually just because of habit or laziness, there are some cases wherein hoarders actually have an obsessive compulsive disorder already. This is why many cannot seem to get their houses clean no matter how hard they try. For those who are asking themselves the question Am I a Hoarder with OCD, check out these signs.

In order to determine whether one seems to have a problem or not, one must first check if he or she can actually let go of stuff. There are people who are just lazy to do it and some people who actually cannot. If one does not want to get rid of worthless junk and still keeps on adding to the pile, then there probably is a problem.

Another thing to watch out for would be whether one has accumulated stacks of stuff in the house but hardly use any of them. This could include something big like furniture, something small like canned goods, or probably even old carton boxes. As long as one sees that he or she has too much stuff in the house and too little leg room, then it may already be a sign.

Another sign would be if one has a very easy time letting go of the stuff of other people. Comparatively, if one cannot let go of his own stuff but can easily let go of the belongings of other people, then he or she probably has a hoarding problem. One would want to check on this type of behavior if he or she believes he or she has this problem.

If one also sees that his or her house has become rather unsanitary to the point that weird things are starting to grow, then it is yet another very unhealthy sign. Observe for things such as molds, mildew, or probably even mushrooms growing in some parts of the rooms. This is definitely a big sign that should not be ignored at all.

This kind of behavior may also affect ones relationships as well if not attended to early on. One will notice that he or she will get pretty irritable if ever there are family or friends calling out his or her attention. For those who kind of hate people interfering with this sort of behavior, seek help early already.

Getting angry over people confronting them about their habits may lead to something worse like social isolation. If a person feels like other people do not understand what he or she is doing, then he or she will most likely just shut himself or herself up. Then that could lead to relationship problems.

If one would notice that he exhibits any of these signs, then it is time to already get some help. There are many ways that one can curb his or her OCD with some therapy being the most common treatment method. This is especially needed if one would already be experiencing the really bad effects of this disorder.
