When Choosing A Spiritual Road, Consider Living Agalliao

By Jana Serrano

Many Christian believers search the scriptures for meaning in words. It is these that help those seeking a spiritual path to find discernment about how to live life. Bible scholars know that the definitions are equally as important as their context. When wonderful words, packed with substance, are discovered, they often take on a life of their own as inspirational mottoes for many worthy causes.

Most astute Christians will recognize some of the more popular terms. The word agape has had generations of believers following its God given gift to share love with others. The family kind of love is something anyone can comprehend. The sharing of it unconditionally is more difficult. In the same way, the Greek agalliao has moved to center front in the thoughts of many. With so many cultural disasters, people are seeking alternative ways to live less troubled lives.

The definition of this word means rejoice, exult, and be glad. But more specifically these actions are done with the instructions to be exceeding. These are actions taken to the ultimate and beyond in terms of feeling.

Several authors have attempted to put into lucid explanations the many facets of meaning found in this word. The trick is to not only describe the literal, but the implied. Writers Aaron Cornett and David Sherman each have books that take the implied meanings for long distance study. Their books teach readers ways to incorporate the principles which derive from the meanings in their own spiritual seeking for better lives. Regardless of the explanations, each gives God credit as the source for joyful relationships.

Because this strong term catches the public eye, organizations adopt it as their corporate vision. One group in Nigeria has named their non profit organization using it. Their Development Initiative is helping poverty stricken women and children overcome illness, hunger and illiteracy. A North Carolina church used it to name their place of joyful worship. Even a praise worship band has adopted it as their name. This is vocabulary encouraging many who believe in its powerful definition.

There are essays, dissertations and sermons published on the Internet which have this Greek word as thematic material. It is no wonder that so much has been written about it. Many believers understand it to be a top contender for what writers refer to as power words. These are the ones that catch the imagination, evoke feelings of empathy or encourage readers to continue on with a particular book.

Of all of these uses, perhaps the most in depth could be the series written by David Ross Sherman, simply because these books try to give a complete overview of all the ways that the definitions could be applied. He deals with various sentence structures, but also with interpretations thoughtfully meant to help people include the ideals implicit in the definitions in real life situations. These are more than a simple series, but rather an in depth analysis of many concepts.

This is a word of intrigue. It is much more than a simple definition. It offers a positive solution for everyday problems.
