Things To Know Before Teaching Alcohol And Drug Classes Grand Rapids

By Gregory Gibson

When children are born, they are these beautiful little creatures. In a few years, they get to turn into mischievous little know it all. In between the back talking and rudeness, parents do not know how to talk to them. They are especially defensive on the topic of drugs and alcohol. The parents assume the teachers talk to them while the teachers assume the parents do. Below are a few tips to alcohol and drug classes grand rapids.

Focus on the health aspect rather than the morality aspect. In the past, people have always said how drugs will ruin their lives and land them in jail. This did not register with the teens. They just saw it as an impossible turn of events. If you, however, tell them what will happen to their brains and bodies, they will be shaken up and start the quitting process.

As young as age nine, some children are already peddling drugs. People may assume that they do not have to use, but that is not entirely true. They will get tempted and end up being addicts. You should raise awareness about drugs at a young age. You will be able to get through to them when they are still young, and they may think twice as teenagers.

Keep in mind that the effect of drugs today is much more than in the past. Nowadays, drugs are more effective and more accessible for the teens. For example, marijuana has been legalized in several states. This puts the teens at more risk as they can actually have it legally. There is also the invention of electronic cigarettes which are no less harmful than tobacco cigarettes.

Explain to them how negatively drugs are going to affect their brains. They will be stunted for life. They will never have the ability to make a proper decision as their brains are not up to the task. Eventually, they become addicted to the drug. This means that they cannot think straight without using. They actually cannot do anything without the drug.

Make them aware that drugs and alcohol are not choosy. They can affect anyone regardless of their age, gender or race. Also as a teacher, never ignore the signs of a student just because they are from a certain background or they have been raised a certain way. Do not let the life of a person slip away based on assumption.

Alcohol and drug abuse have very may symptoms. You may not know all of them, but you can always be on the look- out for something out of the ordinary. If you see something unusual with a student, call them outside and find out what is going on with them. You can send them to a guidance counselor or even inform their family of their change in behavior.

Just talking to teenagers in class may not be very effective. Find fun activities to participate in as you continue to enlighten them. You can bring on board fellow teachers and guidance and counseling staff. Parents can be involved too as a team effort.
