There's A Lot Of Information Available At Female Empowerment Websites Dedicated To Young Girls

By Jessica King

Today there is so much energy dedicated to the rights of women, it almost seems like information overload. Every day there is news of another scandal involving the misconduct of powerful men. This has caused a sharp rise in the female empowerment websites directed specifically at young girls. They are offering places where girls can go to get information and affirmation. They may target different subjects, but each one is a safe place with a positive message.

There are sites that focus on overturning gender stereotypes. They have articles that address body image obsession and why girls often seem to acquiesce to boys when it comes to taking leadership roles. There are honest discussions about the reasons many girls shy away from science and math at a certain age, and what it is about sports that makes many self-conscious.

Clothes are a big part of a lot of little girls' lives. Mothers get frustrated on shopping sprees when all they have to choose from are purple and pink frilly costumes designed to encourage the princess and drama queen mentality. One mother did something about it. She started a website offering bold, bright clothes for girls that are play proof and perfect for even the most adventurous.

Middle school is tough. It is an awkward transitional time for many girls. One site takes on the challenge of middle school by pairing this age group with high school students. The older girls serve as mentors to the younger ones. This is a place where they can discuss such sensitive subjects as drinking, drugs, being nice, and the best way to communicate with parents. The stated purpose of the site is to build self-esteem, create leaders, and encourage community service.

Advertising messages have a lot of power. Its power is sometimes positive, but there is also a great deal of negativity and manipulation. There is a site that addresses how to recognize advertising designed to harm and manipulate. This site dedicates itself to empowering young girls enough that they are willing to stand up to this kind of mental abuse and point it out to others.

Some sites are more global than others. One such site focuses on education and the fact that, in many countries, girls are still denied access to formal education. Its goal is to raise awareness about this serious problem and direct those who might be suffering under this kind of oppression to valuable resources. Their mission is to work toward a world where all girls have the right, and access, to the same education as their male counterparts.

There is at least one site that was created to advance the cause of young women and science. This site is especially focused on encouraging female researchers in all areas of science. It awards fellowship grants to five postdoctoral researchers every year.

Young women in today's world face many challenges. More than ever before other women are lending a helping hand. They want future generations of little girls to feel confidant that anything is possible.
