Finding Self Defence Classes

All self defence classes are not the same. In fact, they can be vastly different from each other. Knowing this before you sign up for a class can help you determine whether or not you are going to have a successful experience.

Street self defence moves are different from martial arts because they are typically less structured. They will be practical ways to defend your body against an attack. If you are learning self defence moves for street fighting, you will most likely want to be familiar in a number of different weapons (real or improvised) in order to better defend yourself.

What are your personal goals? Every individual should walk into a self defence class with specific goals in mind. What do you hope to accomplish? What do you expect to see in a classroom? Answering these questions ahead of time can make it so that you will know whether or not this self defence class is for you after just one lesson.

Do you want a type of specialized training? There are a number of different self defence varieties throughout the country. Some specialize in training women and using their body types and characteristics to teach them the most effective methods in self defence. Other classes will ignore your sexuality and train you in skilled techniques that you can use.

Do you want mixed martial arts, a specific type of martial art or a version of "street fighting?" For some, self defence class is not only about protecting themselves, it's also about learning a new form of tradition and ritual that dates back thousands of years. For others, they want to learn a little bit of everything in their defense training. By educating yourself on the different aspects of self defence classes, you can find the right one for your needs and ensure a more successful training experience.
